This article starts off by citing Myer’s “Indivisible Self” model discussed in my second annotated bibliography. It points out that, though Nature is mentioned as a critical part of mental health, it is not explicitly present in the “Indivisible Self” model or any other technical approaches to mental health. This article seeks to define EcoWellness and introduce it as a necessary aspect of mental health. It lists the effects that Nature has on wellness, which includes lower stress, higher concentration (decreasing the effects of ADHD), and better academic performance. The idea of transcendence through Nature is discussed, as well as various types of research conducted on the incorporation of Nature into spirituality and transcendence. Overall, this article defended that Nature is a critical factor in “Holistic Wellness Models”.
Auntie Jane is back, and better than ever! EcoWellness--and really, eco-anything (EcoPsychology, EcoTherapy)--is a yes in the Nature Exploration and Conservation book. There is literally no reason why you shouldn't be reading this article right now. It's right here, in bright pink. What on this dying earth are you waiting for?
